Canadian Small Business Women, in partnership with Volition, presents 2021 Young Entrepreneur’s Pitch Conference

August 29, 2021 – We are thrilled to announce that we will be partnering with Volition for a second year to present the 2021 Young Entrepreneur’s Pitch Conference.

This virtual conference is taking place November 20, 2021, and will showcase women-lead companies across Canada in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) space. Building on the success of the 2020 Young Entrepreneurs Pitch Conference, you can expect a variety of panel discussions and workshops from industry experts, as well as speed networking, a vendor hall, and pitch competition.

While all are welcome to attend the conference, pitch applications (opening this fall) will be open to young entrepreneurial women (aged 19-45) in the CPG industry, from across Canada. All applicants will gain access to a Volition Pitch Bootcamp, and audience members will have the opportunity to cheer on and vote for their favourite Finalist pitching at the Pitch Conference.

“Last year, we were honoured to partner with Volition to bring our dreams of hosting a pitch conference to life. The success of last year’s event was evident in the responses of our pitchers, speakers and guests. This year, we are back together again and the theme is Consumer Packaged Goods. With the expertise of hundreds of pitch competitions under their belt and our conference producing history, this year’s event will not disappoint. I am looking forward to hearing this year’s pitch submissions!”

– Dwania McLarty-Peele, Founder Canadian Small Business Women

“We are so excited to be working with CSBW yet again to support and advance Canadian women in business. This past year put incredible strain on CPG companies–and women-led businesses in particular–as they have had to juggle shifting demands, supply chain issues, employee needs, and intense and variable growth patterns. We have seen such innovation and some really amazing new companies emerge this past year, and want to provide space to acknowledge, celebrate, and support this sector and the young women within it.”

– Melanie Ewan, Managing Partner Volition

If you are interested in getting involved as a partner, sponsor, or speaker, and are looking for more information, please reach out to info@canadiansmallbusinesswomen.ca

Mississauga Blood Donor Drive

You have the power to give life…

When you donate blood, a unique feeling of pride unites you with donors everywhere. When people donate blood, stem cells, cord blood, or become an organ, eye or tissue donor, what they are really doing is giving life.

Join the movement…

Half of all Canadians will either need blood or know someone who will need blood at some point in their lives. Yet only four percent of Canadians donate. Our job is to change that. At Canadian Blood Services, we’re responsible for recruiting and collecting blood, plasma, and platelets at 36 permanent collection sites and more than 14,000 donor clinics every year.

Join Canadian Small Business Women at our first Blood Donor Drive on July 21st, 2018 at Heartland Blood Donor Clinic: 765 Britannia Rd W #2, Mississauga, ON L5V 2Y1

Book Your Spot Today

We are currently booking spots from 8am – 11am.  Once those spots are filled, we will open additional times.

Can’t donate but want to help?  We are seeking:

Jane Cotnam – Featured Member

I am a strong woman.

I am a feminist.

I am a mother.

I am a business owner.

I am a perpetual optimist.

I am a dreamer.

I am a volunteer.

I choose to believe the best in everyone.

I have strong beliefs that I am passionate about.

I love a good debate.

I was born in Montreal, but spent equal time in Mont Tremblant.   French is my first language, but my mom, Liz, knew that my English needed to be better, so she sent me to English high school for my last year.  While in Mont Tremblant I worked every kind of hotel and resort job there was starting at 14, finally becoming a ski instructor, and skiing for my high school.

In the early ‘80’s I moved to Toronto to pursue a career in insurance (following my father), and immediately gravitated to the group benefits side of the business, where I have stayed ever since.  In ’84 I assisted in developing the Canadian Organization of Small Businesses, an association plan that allowed small businesses to have group benefits that had previously been unattainable.  I helped put together the first online billing system for group benefits.   I am proud of being a dedicated independent group benefit plan broker and advisor, and I specialize in groups that are hard to acquire benefits for.

I am a hearing-impaired member of CHS (Canadian Hearing Society) and had the privilege of teaching ASL (American Sign Language) to kindergarten children in a play environment. I am still a member of the CHS Board.  As someone who believes in volunteering, I was also involved in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, Pancreatic Cancer Canada (following Liz’s passing) and that lead me to being a Palliative Care Liaison Volunteer, being part of the program and workshops at Credit Valley Hospital. I have also volunteered with my children’s schools as a fundraising chair.

I was introduced to Arbonne in November 2009 and became a consultant after trying the products for only a week.  Arbonne was easy to integrate into my life. It allowed me the time to work in insurance and to continue volunteering. I chose Arbonne for several reasons; it is a safe, botanical product and all their products are vegan and gluten free. Another reason for me is that Arbonne is certified cruelty free. Being someone with 4 rescue dogs, this was extremely important to me. Animal testing is completely unnecessary, and Arbonne understands that. When I started using the products, I immediately loved the results. Whether it is from our anti-ageing skin care line or the nutrition products, Arbonne consistently comes out on top in the market place.

Arbonne’s business design is created to help you succeed. The support offered by your upline and sidelines is inspiring. There is no competition between consultants. It offers an environment of support and recognizes success. Arbonne gives consultants the ability to control their lives the way they want to live. You may be in business for yourself, but you are never by yourself. They offer amazing training for all products and every facet of the business. I love sharing the business with others. It may start off as a secondary income for someone, and quickly become their primary source. It offers people the opportunity to be their own boss, manage their time differently and enables them to live the life they want, not the life they have to. The fact that the products are consumables means that your clients reorder from your own website that Arbonne sets up for each of its consultants. We, as consultants, can cross-border sponsor other business builders. It is a global business, run from the comfort of your own home. We are expanding all the time, and currently we are in Canada, the U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Poland and Taiwan. This is a company that is growing globally and the ability to manage my time and have a residual income appeals to me.

The wonderful thing about Arbonne is that it’s not just about great products, it’s also about great people. The Arbonne family is made up of thousands of individuals working to make their dreams come true. Through sales incentives and rewards, travel opportunities, a generous Success Plan and great products, Arbonne offers a unique opportunity that can help make anyone’s vision for the future a reality.

I am always looking for quality individuals who are ready  to earn more income, create a business that is for themselves, or to simply begin a new chapter in life. I am always there to help anyone who starts an Arbonne business. I will help you get to where you want to be with training, support and lots of encouragement. We are always better together!

Body, mind, spirit, friendship, community, earth. Wherever you decide to start, one change leads to another … and then another. Over time, many little changes can equal one total transformation. Arbonne has shown me that.

Testimonial:
I have attended CSBW events for the past 3 years so I’ve had the opportunity to see the hard work, dedication, and persistence they have shown in bringing excellent seminars and opportunities to the business owners. Each year the event gets bigger and better and I would encourage anyone who is in the ‘growth’ mode of their business to attend and if possible be an exhibitor. At the last event I attended in Mississauga, I closed approximately $25k in business – that, in my books is a GREAT DAY’S WORK!

FREE Facebook Chat with Vistaprint

Join us as we host our montly Facebook chat featuring Alicia Vianga of After Breast Cancer and Premier Jour Alicia will discuss the importance of Philantropy in the world of Small Business

About Alicia

Alicia is a big-hearted entrepreneur who combines her expertise in trend forecasting, bra fitting, and fashion knowledge to give women in Toronto an authentic and educational shopping experience.

Before starting her journey into entrepreneurship and advocating for women who have battled breast cancer, Alicia spent over 19 years in hospitality.  As a catering and sales specialist in the industry she had the opportunity to work for esteemed organizations such as the University of Toronto,Colony Hotel, Hotel Plaza II, and the Marriott Hotel Bloor Yorkville. While she attributes her business savvy to her experiences in the hospitality industry, Alicia knew she was meant to start her own business and fill a niche many women didn’t know existed. This led Alicia to found Premier Jour Lingerie and Swimwear, a boutique that provides its customers with unique lingerie and swimwear as well as certified bra fittings.

Since starting her business Alicia has been sought out for her expert bra fitting skills and knowledge. From befuddled husbands shopping for a loved one, to the readers of her blog for theHuffington Post and Revive Magazine, people are hungry for her specialist opinions. One of Alicia’s biggest and most interactive audiences has been held at Dundas Square where she gave a bra fitting workshop for over 1,000 women.

Alicia and her company Premier Jour have been featured as a pre and post breast augmentation bra fitter on Hollywood’s 10 Best This Week, Entertainment Tonight Canada, CFRB 1010,Rogers Day Time TV, Weddingbells Magazine, Toronto Star, Slice TV’s Plastic Makes Perfect,LOVE INC, Jeanne Beker Post News, SNAP Magazines, and Avenue Magazine. Premier Jourwas also voted the Best of the Best Readers Choice Lingerie Boutique in 2012.

Alicia strongly believes in giving back to the community. She is an active board member of theCorso Italia BIA, whose goal is to preserve and promote the beautiful neighbourhood of St. Clair West in Toronto. Alicia also supports non-profit events such as The Jeanne Lottie Pink Bedroom Party, and Covenant House-Celebrate Mom.

Alicia, in conjunction with Premier Jour, was asked to review the official Bra Fitting Guide for a major hospital chain in Toronto. Through this affiliation with the Hospital, Alicia identified a major gap in the health care system; there is no program that provides necessities for women who have battled breast cancer who are financially strained. It was this realization that encouraged Alicia to found After Breast Cancer, a charity aimed at ensuring survivors of breast cancer lacking financial means have access to necessities such as bras and/or prosthesis. Alicia understands that when women move from breast cancer patient to breast cancer survivor, the world is a different place for them.  Obtaining properly fitted prosthesis and bras enables survivors to begin their journey to regain their self confidence and restore their feeling of being whole again.

After Breast Cancer was launched on October 14, 2012 during Breast Cancer Awareness Monthat a Toronto Argos Game. The charity has been featured in Toronto Is Awesome, OMNI Television’s Culture Avenue, Samaritan Magazine, Girls of T.O, Urban Moms, CP24 Breakfast, and Global News’ Susan Hay Making a Difference segment.

Along with founding After Breast Cancer, Alicia is also the creator of Bras for Congo, a charitable organization that accepts donated bras which are then given to women in the Congo. Each year, Alicia accepts hundreds of bra donations from the public to distribute to hospitals in the Congo.

Alicia is a socially responsible, passionate, and determined business woman and she lives her life trying to make a difference…one bra at a time.
